The beloved Kellett Dragon made its first appearance at Kellett's l0th anniversary, originally hand drawn by the then our founding art teacher, Christina Lamont (OK 1977-98), to adorn the celebration mug presented to each student by the Parents' Committee. It was at our 25th anniversary that the Dragon came into its own and was formally adopted as our mascot and part of the school's logo. Today, a 'Kellec Hung Lung' is presented to every Kellett Prep child upon starting at the school, and can be found at almost every Kellett event whether it be a sports fixture, school journey or assembly. At Kellett School 40th anniversary, we honour our 'Kellee Hung Lung' by wearing dragon hats, whilst paying homage to Hong Kong by forming the image of a traditional Hong Kong junk.

Name of Kellett Dragon

Kellec Hung Lung (Cantonese pronunciation),  Qi Li Long (Mandarin pronunciation) or Kellett Dragon is the much loved symbol of Kellett School.

Character and its role at Kellett School

Qi Li Long is no ordinary dragon; Qi Li Long is a Chinese fire dragon sharing all the characteristics of its peers. Qi Li Long is a strong leader and is inspiring, ambitious, friendly, trustworthy, loyal and can be relied upon to help others.

Qi Li Long espouses the characteristics we wish for our students. It is tradition that on entry to Kellett, students are each presented with their own dragon. Our students believe that Qi Li Long will help them in fulfilling the school aim, 'A Love of Learning and Confidence for Life' as responsible and caring individuals.

Qi Li Long is rarely presented to those outside of the immediate Kellett community but to do so honours the presence of that person within our community and offers inspiration for all future endeavours.
