On 21 May morning, the Senior School held a beautiful celebration the Senior School held a beautiful celebration for Mr Owen Smith, Design & Technology teacher, who passed away on 7 May.  The celebration included readings from students, colleagues and Old Kellettonians. Guests wore dashes of yellow to signify the colours of Youde, the Senior School House he so proudly represented. This celebration was wonderfully summed up by Head of PFL Prep Mr Dixon, who said:

"Make no mistake, Mr. Smith made his mark inspiring his students and colleagues. Today's celebration was testament to that. I was personally overwhelmed with how beautifully curated this event was delivered and shared. All speakers and singers were so composed; no-one faltered, I really don't know how they all did it, the students in particular were incredible. This took so much courage, and I am sure Owen would have approved. Fuelled by love and devotion."

Current Y13 Design Technology student Katherine recounted some lovely tales of Mr. Smith's energy, enthusiasm and sense of humour.

The commemoration was also sprinkled with fantastic musical performances from students and colleagues of some of Mr Smith's favourite songs. The below video was compiled by a member of the Kellett Community and shows some more photos and videos of Mr Smith, notably during 2019 Global Outlook Week in New Zealand, and the accompanying music was performed live during this morning's memorial.

Thank you for your messages

We received so many moving and thoughtful messages for Owen’s parents which we collated on a Padlet. Thank you. We have passed them on to his family, and we know they are very grateful for the insight into how highly thought of he was in the Kellett Community.
